Community Living

Community Living Services are designed so that individuals with developmental disabilities can experience lifestyles and living situations similar to those experienced by those without disabilities. Supports are tailored to each person's needs and desires and plans are developed with, rather than for, the individual.

A major goal of Community Living Services is to empower individuals to make their own decisions about where they live, who they live with, and to take control over their living environment to the maximum extent possible while maintaining their own personal health and safety. If the individual's support needs change, we believe the person should not have to move to continue receiving the support they need. The amount of support varies with each individual and can range from a few hours per month to 24 hours a day.

Community Living Services strive to increase community involvement and natural supports. Our staff encourage individuals to pursue activities of their choice in order to develop friendships and connections in the community. These friends and connections may provide assistance with some daily activities thus reducing the need for paid support.

CIS has two community living programs:

Independent Living provides one-on-one support to individuals able to live in unsupervised living settings.

Supported Living provides one-on-one support for up to 24 hours a day for individuals with greater needs.
