Community Interface Services…

Services for Consumers, Families, and Friends

Community Interface Services (CIS), established in 1983, is a nonprofit organization which provides training services, support, and advocacy for people with developmental disabilities. Community Interface is committed to providing high quality, community based services which emphasize improvement in the quality of individuals' lives through maximizing independence and community inclusion.

Community Interface Services has long been committed to the ideal that all persons, including those with developmental disabilities, have the right to make the important decisions that affect their lives. One fundamental decision involves how and where to live- in an apartment or house, alone or with others, in the city or in the country. Community Interface Services’ housing project, called Community Housing Partnership is dedicated to assisting individuals connect to the resources needed to locate long-term, affordable housing.

Supports are individualized and unique to each person and are available throughout San Diego County. Our services include:

Vocational and community based day program services with a vocational, volunteer, or community involvement focus, based on individual preference.

Supported employment services including job development, placement, and coaching services to assist individuals in obtaining meaningful community employment

Community living services which provide training and support to assist individuals to live as independently as possible in their own homes, apartments, etc. Services include parenting skills training for parents or expecting parents; advocacy services and self-advocacy training; mobility and destination training and other, individualized support services as determined by the individual's planning team.

In-home respite services which provide support and relief for caregivers who are caring for a family member with a developmental disability. The service provides individualized supervision, companionship, and care to children age 3 or older or to adults.

Homeownership and rental assistance services to increase access to affordable housing for persons with developmental disabilities in San Diego and Imperial Counties.

Self-directed services are designed to ensure that individuals have the power to make their own decisions and truly control their own lives. This empowerment includes gaining authority over financial resources and determining what supports are needed, deciding how supports will be implemented, and by whom. Individuals should control the hiring of those who support them. To promote these principles of self-determination, Community Interface offers two fiscal management services: Fiscal Employer Agent and Bill Payer Service. For both services, a monthly Individualized Budget Update which details approved allocations, expenditures, and funds in reserve is provided to the consumer/family and the Regional Center

Social Support Facilitation is a unique project designed to promote and encourage access to social and recreational opportunities for adults and children with developmental disabilities. The service offers assessment, research, referral, and in some cases, barrier removal. Individualized resource plans are developed based on the consumer's needs and wants.
