Our Story

Group-PhotoDisabilities.jpg

Community Interface Services (CIS) was founded as a California nonprofit corporation in 1983. Located in Vista, California, the agency has built a reputation for excellence in delivering community-based services and support to persons with developmental disabilities throughout San Diego County, with limited services in other parts of the state. The agency was founded on the principles that people with developmental disabilities are in the best position to determine how they want to live, and all people, regardless of disability, should be valued and included in society. Our dedicated staff members embody these core values every day.

With its commitment to exceptional service delivery and best practices, the agency has grown into a premier service provider for persons with developmental disabilities in San Diego County. From its roots in supported employment, CIS expanded to offer a variety of community-based vocational training programs, community living services, and housing assistance, as well as specialized, time-limited projects to explore new service delivery methods.

Today, Community Interface Services is based in Vista, California, with approximately 180 direct service staff members providing supports to approximately 1600 individuals annually. In recognition of excellence in service delivery, Community Interface Services’ Supported Employment program has received the highest possible accreditation from CARF, the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities, continuously since 1997.
